Kristin Scott Thomas is a British actress born on May 24, 1960 in Redruth, Cornwall. Her mother was a drama student while her father was Lieutenant Commander Simon Scott Thomas, a pilot for the British Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm. She has a younger sister, Serena Scott Thomas. She grew up in Nether Compton, Dorset, and studied at the Cheltenham Ladies' College and St. Antony's Leweston School for Girls.
After finishing school, Kristin Scott Thomas moved to London and studied acting at the Central School of Speech and Drama. At the age of 19, she traveled to France and attended the Ecole nationale superieure des arts et techniques du theatre (ENSATT) in Paris. After graduating from ENSATT, she starred opposite singer Prince in the 1986 film “Under the Cherry Moon.”
During the late 1980s, Kristin Scott Thomas became popular in the films “Agent trouble,” “A Handful of Dust,” and “Valentino, I Love You!” She was also active in making French film projects such as “Djamal et Juliette,” “La meridienne,” “Billie en tete,” “Force majeure,” “Le bal du gouverneur,” “Aux yeux du monde” and “Mio caro dottor Grasler.”
Kristin Scott Thomas became known internationally for her roles in the box office hit “Four Weddings and a Funeral” in 1994, and in the critically acclaimed film “The English Patient” in 1996. Among her most recent films include “The Other Boleyn Girl,” “The Golden Compass,” and “Confessions of a Shopaholic.”
Kristin Scott Thomas was awarded an Olivier Award, a Legion d'honneur, and an Order of the British Empire in recognition to her outstanding acting performances.
Kristin Scott Thomas was once married to gynecologist Francois Olivennes, with whom she has three children. She was also involved with actor Tobias Menzies.
